Zitkala-Ša Writer, editor,teacher, musican of the first Native American Opera

Zitkala-Ša (Red Bird) 1876—1938.  Writer, editor, teacher, musician, co-composer of the first Native American opera, political activist, founder of the National Council of American Indians - a lobby for the rights of Native Americans to American citizenship.

Zitkala-Sa was a Yankton Sioux woman. She was well educated and went on to become an accomplished author, musician and composer - she wrote the first American Indian opera, The Sun Opera, in 1913. She went on to work for the reform of Indian policies in the United States
